About the Central Laboratory
The Central Laboratory at PCSGMCH provides comprehensive diagnostic services to OPD and IPD patients. It operates under the academic supervision of the Departments of Pathology, Biochemistry and Microbiology and serves as the primary diagnostic hub for the teaching hospital.
Laboratory Sections & Services
Clinical Pathology / Haematology
- Complete Blood Count (CBC / Haemogram)
- Peripheral Blood Smear examination
- ESR, Reticulocyte count
- Coagulation profile (PT, APTT, INR)
- Urine routine and microscopy
- Stool examination
- Body fluid analysis (CSF, pleural, ascitic)
Biochemistry
- Liver function tests, Renal function tests
- Blood glucose (fasting, postprandial, random), HbA1c
- Lipid profile, Cardiac markers
- Serum electrolytes, Thyroid function tests
- Urine biochemistry
Microbiology & Serology
- Culture and sensitivity (blood, urine, sputum, wound swab)
- Gram stain and AFB smear
- Widal test, VDRL, Dengue NS1/IgM, Malaria Antigen
- HIV, HBsAg, HCV serology
- Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs)
Histopathology & Cytology
- Biopsy processing and reporting (supervised by Pathology dept)
- FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology)
- Pap smear

Sample Collection
Patients with a valid prescription from a PCSGMCH doctor may submit samples at the Central Lab sample collection counter. All investigations are provided free of charge to indoor patients. OPD investigations are also free of charge.
