About the department

The Department of General Medicine is the largest clinical department at PCSGMCH, providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for a wide spectrum of adult illnesses. It serves as the primary teaching unit for MBBS Phase III students, covering cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, nephrology and infectious diseases. The department manages a high volume of tropical and non-communicable diseases prevalent in the Hooghly district.

Services

24×7 inpatient management of acute and chronic adult illnesses
General Medicine OPD — Monday to Saturday, 8 AM – 1 PM
Diabetes, hypertension and metabolic syndrome clinic
Neurology and stroke assessment
Infectious disease management — tuberculosis, malaria, dengue, enteric fever
MBBS Phase III and MD (Medicine) postgraduate training

Facilities

Male and female general medicine wards
High Dependency Unit (HDU) with cardiac monitoring
Dedicated diabetic and hypertension OPD clinic
Neurology assessment bay with EEG access
Bedside ultrasound and 12-lead ECG facility
Postgraduate seminar and clinical skill training room
