About the department
The Department of Psychiatry provides evidence-based mental health services to the largely underserved population of Arambagh and surrounding districts. It manages mood disorders, psychosis, substance use disorders, anxiety disorders and provides liaison psychiatry services to other departments. The department advocates for destigmatisation of mental illness through community outreach and public education.
Services
- Inpatient and outpatient management of psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, OCD)
- De-addiction services — alcohol, opioid and poly-substance use
- Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) with full monitoring
- Child and adolescent mental health services
- Liaison psychiatry across all clinical departments
- MBBS Phase III psychiatry teaching and MD (Psychiatry) postgraduate training

- Psychiatry OPD with private consultation rooms
- Psychiatric inpatient ward (male and female sections)
- De-addiction and substance use disorder clinic
- Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) suite with anaesthesia support
