About the department
The Department of Microbiology provides comprehensive teaching in bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology and immunology. The department operates a clinical diagnostic microbiology laboratory that supports the hospital's infection control programme, antimicrobial stewardship and management of infectious diseases. Students gain hands-on experience in culture techniques, serology and microscopy.
Services
- Culture and antibiotic sensitivity testing (blood, urine, pus, CSF, sputum)
- Serological diagnosis of infectious diseases (HIV, HBsAg, VDRL, Widal, Dengue NS1)
- Parasitological examination (stool, blood smear for malaria)
- Hospital infection control committee coordination
- MBBS Phase II microbiology teaching and practicals
- Antimicrobial stewardship programme support

- Bacteriology culture and sensitivity laboratory (aerobic and anaerobic)
- Serology and immunology section (ELISA, Widal, VDRL)
