About the department
The Department of Pathology serves both as a major teaching department and a vital clinical diagnostic service. It provides expertise in histopathology, cytopathology, haematology, clinical pathology and transfusion medicine, supporting patient care across the 594-bed teaching hospital. The department imparts in-depth pathological knowledge to MBBS and postgraduate students through case-based learning, museum demonstrations and advanced diagnostic techniques.
Services
- Histopathology reporting — biopsies, surgical specimens, intraoperative frozen sections
- Cytology services including FNAC and Pap smear
- Haematology — CBC, peripheral smear, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
- Clinical pathology — urine routine, stool examination, body fluid analysis
- Blood bank and transfusion medicine services
- MBBS Phase II/III pathology teaching and PG training
Facilities
- Histopathology laboratory with cryostat and automated tissue processor
- Cytopathology section (FNAC and gynaecological cytology)
- Haematology analyser and bone marrow examination facility
- Clinical pathology laboratory (urine, stool, body fluids)
- Departmental museum with gross and microscopic specimens
- Multi-head teaching microscopes for batch demonstrations
