About the department
The Department of General Surgery handles a high volume of emergency and elective surgical procedures, serving the rural and semi-urban population of Arambagh and surrounding districts. The department covers gastrointestinal surgery, trauma, laparoscopic procedures, urology, breast and thyroid surgery. It provides extensive surgical training to MBBS and postgraduate students through OT postings, ward rounds and skills workshops.

- Emergency and elective laparotomy and laparoscopic surgery
- Trauma surgery, wound management and burn care
- Gastrointestinal, breast and thyroid surgery
- Hernia, anorectal and proctological procedures
- Urological procedures (cystoscopy, TURP support)
- MBBS Phase III surgical training and MS (Surgery) postgraduate teaching

- Dedicated male and female surgical wards
- Modular operation theatres with laparoscopic stack and HD camera
- Surgical ICU / HDU with ventilator support
- Fibreoptic endoscopy suite (upper GI and lower GI)
- Pre-operative and post-operative care unit
- Trauma bay with emergency surgical access and ATLS setup
