Overview
Prafulla Chandra Sen Government Medical College & Hospital (PCSGMCH) was established by the Government of West Bengal under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, Phase II. The college is situated at 34, Arambagh, Hooghly, West Bengal — PIN 712601 — on State Highway 7, approximately 90 km from Kolkata, with excellent road and rail connectivity.
WBUHS affiliation was granted on September 22, 2021, and the institution was formally established on August 23, 2022. The first batch of 100 MBBS students was admitted in the 2022–23 academic session through NEET-UG counselling under All-India and State quotas with stipulated reservation norms.
History
The college is named after Prafulla Chandra Sen, a former Chief Minister of West Bengal, and is housed on the premises of the erstwhile Arambagh Sub-Divisional Hospital — a historic institution serving the region for decades. The upgraded facility has been transformed into a modern 594-bed teaching hospital while preserving its legacy of public service.

The Teaching Hospital
PCSGMCH operates a 594-bed teaching hospital that was upgraded from the Sub-Divisional Hospital. The hospital serves a catchment population of over 30 lakh people across Hooghly, Bankura, Paschim Midnapur, Purba Bardhaman and Howrah districts.

Affiliation & Regulation
PCSGMCH is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) — Vice-Chancellor: Prof. (Dr.) Mukul Bhattacharyya; Registrar: Prof. (Dr.) Indrajit Gupta — and functions under the guidelines of the National Medical Commission (NMC). DNB programmes run under the National Board of Examinations (NBE).

The college has 126 Faculty, 46 Senior Resident & 27 Junior Resident across 23 departments spanning pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines. Annual MBBS intake is 150 seats ( 22 AIQ & 128 SQ). Postgraduate programmes include MD, MS and DNB (launched 2023–24).
