About the department
The Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy (DVL) diagnoses and manages skin, hair, nail and sexually transmitted diseases, with a special focus on leprosy — still prevalent in parts of Hooghly district. The department runs dedicated leprosy and STI clinics, phototherapy services and skin surgery, alongside MBBS and postgraduate training.
Services
- Diagnosis and management of common and complex skin disorders
- Leprosy — detection, multi-drug therapy (MDT) and disability prevention
- STI screening, treatment and contact tracing
- Skin biopsy, excision of skin lesions, cryotherapy and electrosurgery
- Phototherapy (NB-UVB) for psoriasis and vitiligo
- MBBS Phase III DVL teaching and MD (DVL) postgraduate training

- Dermatology OPD with dermatoscopy unit and Wood's lamp
- Skin biopsy and minor operation room
- Leprosy assessment, disability grading and MDT clinic
- STI / venereology clinic with private counselling room
- Narrowband UVB phototherapy unit
- Patch test panel for contact dermatitis evaluation
