About the Blood Bank
The Blood Bank at PCSGMCH Teaching Hospital provides safe blood and blood component services to patients admitted in the hospital. The blood bank operates under the supervision of the Department of Pathology and is licensed by the Drug Controller, Government of West Bengal, in accordance with the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
Services
- Whole blood collection, processing and storage
- Component separation: Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC), Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), Platelets
- Cross-matching and compatibility testing
- Blood grouping and Rh typing
- Screening for transfusion-transmitted infections (HIV, HBsAg, HCV, Syphilis, Malaria)
- Issue of blood and components to admitted patients on valid prescription
Blood Donation
Voluntary blood donation camps are organised regularly at PCSGMCH in collaboration with the Department of Pathology and the West Bengal government's blood donation drive. Eligible donors (age 18–65 years, weight ≥ 45 kg, haemoglobin ≥ 12.5 g/dL) may donate blood at the blood bank during working hours.
